Porta Portese
Porta Portese 1/7

This film explores human perception and awareness of place. It tells a visual story of the physical and social transformation of Porta Portese every Sunday when it is host to a flea market. For six days out of seven the area is a not so busy, down-at-heel part of Rome through which city commuters pass in the early morning and late evening. In the early hours of Sunday morning, market traders begin arriving from all over Italy. A rich assortment of vehicles find their trading locations, stalls are erected and the laborious unpacking begins. By 8am in the early morning light there is an intensity of colour, texture and a richness of display. Crowds of market-goers spill through the large travertine marble arch of Porta Portese and the searching, viewing, and trading begin.
